Verdict: Guys, if you have the deja vu - that's the point of this movie. Ladies, if you agree completely with what Summer did, congratulation, you might have just hurt a guy's heart.
This movie is N-I-C-E.
Not only the way of story telling is unique (nonlinear), but, (especially for guys, or maybe sometimes, girls) you'll feel that the story is real (in fact, it's inspired by real incident)
No, this is not a usual love story(with happy ending). But it's a story with meaningful ending.
It tells how a 'relationship' started (take note, the girl already told the guy upfront), by an inexperienced lover, vs a mysterious (and probably evil) lover, how they reached an 'understanding' (at least the guy thought so), and how the guy recovered.
And yah, sometimes you don't need a reason for break up. The best thing to do is to move on.
The nonlinear way of story telling gives the 'before and after' feel - which is exactly what we are doing everyday.
The selection and usage of OST, is of course, good. That, will have to give the thumbs up to the movie director, Marc Webb, who's a music video director before he attempts this first film.
My only complain is the actress - Zooey Deschanel, which, IMHO, shows no difference with Allison in Yes Man, it's the same mysterious, random, soft spoken, looks cute like the girl from the neighbour, witty, had a dark history etc - which kinda irritates me.
It'll be interesting to know if she acted for Yes Man in the morning, and for (500) Days of Summer in the evening.
But don't take me wrong, I thought she's suitable for the role.
Last but not least, the one scene that particularly touched me was the last few seconds before the movie ends - cos I know Hanson had 'recovered' (in a way)
Rating: 9/10
P/S: Wondered why the many ( ) ? Yeah, that's the tribute to the (500) Days of Summer, lame, I know.
