Come to think about it, I notice that my friend from Finland was using (small) backpack to store the things that he bought, refusing to take plastic bags.

Two (instant) advantages here:
1) Less pollution (I think he saved like, at least 5 plastic bags, which, I believe it's a practice that's being highly endorsed in Europe)
2) It's easier to carry with backpack.

@ taipei you have to bring your own bag.. else you will be charged NTD 5 per plastic bag.. they will just put sticker on item sold if you bring your own bag. but in the "pasar malam" foods are sold with a lot of packaging.. so we have to say.. don't give plastic bag :)
