Brussels cafe's menu for your reference ;)

So the other day went ot Brussels Beer Cafe to have a drink with a colleagues - before one of them become ex-colleague.

Paulwel Kwak (8.1% ABV)

I tried this Belgian strong pale ale even though I read from the review that it wasn't that good - it is for the sake of trying and get the feel of the glass (LOL)

So ya, it's a strong pale ale, but taste wise, I'd still go for the lighter but cheaper Leffe Blonde.

Tried this at: Brussels beer cafe, Jln P Ramlee

Belle Vue Kriek (5.20% ABV)

I didn't try this, but my colleague did.

He wasn't that impressed cos he said it taste like Ribena. (LOL)

Available @ Brussels beer cafe, Jln P Ramlee

Deutsches Gasthaus menu for your reference

Erdinger Weissbier (5.30% ABV)

Finally get to try this beer after I heard the praise from the boss of Bottles & Bottles @ The Garden.

To be frank, it isn't that great - Franziskaner Weissbier's taste is richer than this one. (Needless to say about Paulaner or Weihenstephaner)

But if you look at the menu, Franziskaner dunkel or Erdinger dunkel is the next thing I'll try out :D

Tried this at: Deutsches Gasthaus, Bukit Maluri

In fact, I'm amazed by her courage to appear on stage to receive the "Worst Actress" in Golden Raspberry Awards.

On top of that, she brought the movie DVD and gave them free to all the audience so that they could watch it, really watch it.

Haha, I salute her for having the courage and took the award in a 'damage controlling' manner.

So, I might also watch "All About Steve" to see how worst it is :)

Update: She won the "Best Actress" in the Academy Awards in the next day. I seriously think this will be the first and the last case.

Fig 1a. the "ingredients"

Impressed by the taste of Leffe Brune (at a rather affordable price for Belgian dark ale), I did some research and found that some people use it to marinade meat ball.

I got some recipe and felt lazy (that's the 1st one), so I did research again.

I found that people used it to make the meat sauce for spaghetti.

I got the recipe from Ron and Winne, however, got lazy again.

Btw, this morning when I woke up, I had the urge to try out.

So went to supermarket to buy the ingredients. Fig 1a shows the ingredient I bought.

At the supermarket, I felt the laziness bug, bugging me again.

So instead of buying canned mushroom, I bought the alfredo portobello sauce (with mushroom) and cheese & cream sauce - then mix them.

I didn't feel that scared cos I know at home there are 3 other victims/guinea pig to enjoy or suffer together.

So I cut the chicken breast into pieces, and marinaded with Leffe Radieuse (Jusco only has that, but well, it's 8.2% ABV, so even better?)

Marinaded for 1 hour

Then, stir-fried with olive oil.

After stir-fried it, I mixed all of them with (another mixture of) the spaghetti sauce.

Now the spaghetti part - I forgot the how much time is it needed, so I tasted the noodle 2 times to call off the cooking session.

Here comes the result, did not look so tasty I know, but that's because I only remembered to take photo when my sister ate it half way!

So the objective of this random cookery session is mainly on the marinaded meat.

My verdict:
The taste of the beer is not evident. You can only say it's a chicken with a hint of beer.
Maybe I should use pork next time.

As for my family members, they didn't particularly find it great, but comments from them:

Sister: The spaghetti is just nice (i.e. not too soft nor too hard)
Mum: So what do you plan to cook for dinner? (my reply in my heart: dream on [I know i'm not a good son])

So that's all about my random cookery session.

Sekian.

The qualities are also known as the quadruplicities, which means there are four horoscope signs falls in a quality category.

If the elements tell you the person's initial impression, then the qualities will tell the person's behavior in the long run.

The following explains the three qualities in horoscope:

Cardinal: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn

Providing the ACTION to get things started.

Keywords: action, decisive, enterprising, initiating, vigorous

Fixed: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius

Providing the STABILITY to see things through.

Keywords: conserving, intense, persistence, reliable, resistant to change, stabilising, steadfast, supportive

Mutable: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

Providing the ADAPTABILITY to make changes.

Keywords: adaptable, changeable, flexible, variable, versatile

Qualities can explain why two person with the same element, behaved differently.

For e.g. Leo (Fixed sign) can be very stubborn on a change of request while Sagittarius can accommodate to it easily (Mutable sign).

Qualities have something gotta do with the season change.

Let's look at how the qualities of the sign progress:

Cardinal -> Fixed -> Mutable

Then, take an example on Summer, which has (Cancer -> Leo -> Virgo):

Cancer (22/6 - 22/7) represents the start of the summer. It leads the start of new season (initialisation/leading is one of cardinal sign's characteristic)

Leo (23/7 - 22/8) represents the middle of summer. It kept the summer going and is considered as the 'peak of the summer'. (therefore, the characteristic of summer is evident and therefore, translate into the 'stubborn' characteristic)

Virgo (23/8 - 22/9) represents the change of season. It sits between the end of summer and the beginning of the autumn. Therefore, the changeability of the season gives the 'mutability' characteristic.

So we know there are 4 elements in horoscope, i.e.

Fire, Earth, Air and Water

The elements play an important role in determining the basic character type and the general approach to life.

The elements are also known as the Triplicities. (as there are three signs in an element)

Following best describe the characteristics of the elements (summarised from various source):

Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
People with a strong emphasis of the fire element are spontaneous and impulsive, they apply their energies wholeheartedly. Their emotional response is quick and they have a lively imagination.

Keywords: Active, masculine, spontaneous, quick, initiating, instinctual, outgoing, vitalizing and energetic.

Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earthy people react quietly and slowly. They apply themselves with endurance. Emotionally they are deeply rooted and slow to change.

Keywords: Passive, feminine, solid, materialization, physical, stable, slow-moving, practical, sensual and grounded

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Airy people are quick and animated. They apply their energies in very diverse ways. They tend to intellectualize their feelings and expectations.

Keywords: Active, masculine, intellectual, ethereal, abstract, ideas, detached, social, conceptual and communicative

Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
People with a strongly emphasized water element are feeling types and are very sensitive. Their imaginative and emotional lives are deep and rich.

Keywords: Passive, feminine, receptive, sustaining, subconscious, creative, emotions, imaginative, nurturing, introverted and generative

Verdict: You won't be disappointed by Tim Burton's depiction. However, the excitement or surprises isn't really there

Watching this movie is like visiting an old friend, listening to his latest update in life.

You know that he's great, and the steady him does have a steady life, without much surprise.

This is how I felt about this movie.

Tim provided us a colourful wonderland in his signature style, but isn't as imaginative as, for example, Big Fish.

Perhaps the fact that it's an old kid's story - it didn't have much surprises like the modern ones e.g. Harry Potter.

I'd recommend to watch it in 3D, as the 3D effect was very much visible than the previous 3D movies I had watched (Aliens vs Monsters, Christmas in Carol and IMHO, even better than Avatar)

And of course, as a movie for kids, it's much better than Percy Jackson.

Rating: 7/10

Me and my friend were having drinks @ a pub.

My friend waited for his dinner + fries and they had not arrived.

While I had two pints of beer and was a bit high.

Upon following up for his dinner, the chosen waiter (looked like a new staff) got back and said
"I'm so sorry, apparently our system didn't take down your order"

"But I'll try allllllll my best to make sure the food will be served to you as soon as possible"

My friend accepted the offer.

5 minutes later, my friend recalled about his fries,

Upon following up with the same waiter, apparently he was a bit nervous and without even checking with the kitchen, he answered:

"(The kitchen is still) F-F-FRYING!!!"

(I laughed out loud on the spot as I was a bit high, didn't even bother the existence of the waiter beside us)

Verdict: A happening version of "I Am Legend"

The story tells a man in a post apocalyptic era, who had been walking from east to west of USA to deliver something.

As the man walked in the movie, I recalled the movie "I Am Legend", which the actor also wandered with a similar purpose.

I'd say the post-apocalyptic feel was well created

The movie inevitably suffered from the slow-pace (at 2 hours) but I've gotta admit that everything was well explained.

Washington's acting was good, if not better than Will Smith in "I Am Legend".

In the end, Eli achieved his mission.

A preach of Christianity was also featured in the movie, but not excessive.

But I've gotta tell you, the ending is mind blowing :-)

Rating: 6.5/10

Verdict: Better than "Here Comes Fortune", but nowhere funnier than "72 Tenants of Prosperity"

This movie marks a small achievement - I managed to watch all the Chinese movies intended for this year's CNY.

I could hardly remember the original "All's Well Ends Well", but this comedy somehow gave me the feel that it still has the funny element brought from the 80's.

Enough said, to enjoy this movie, switch off your brain and have some good laugh.

But like I said, (with my brain switched off) I laughed "wholeheartedly" when I watched 72 Tenants of Prosperity.

But don't expect that this movie will give you any food for thoughts.

Apparently, I forgot some beer that I had tried (!!!)

With the additional beers I tried @ Brussels beer cafe yesterday.. here it goes:

Franziskaner weissbier (5% ABV)

I'd say it's a more affordable German white beer. Though the taste isn't as rich as Paulaner or Weihenstephaner, I'd say it's a refreshing one as well.

Tried this at: Home

Tetley's English Ale (4.4% ABV)

Tetley's is a smooth beer.

But, like Warsteiner, the taste isn't that strong.

So it'll be the drink at party/games - if someone wants you to drink a lot :P

And I agreed with my friend - it's more like a chick beer.

Tried this at: Scott's restaurant, Fraser's Hill

Leffe Blonde draft (6.6% ABV)

Another attempt on draft - tastes better :-)

I'd say it's a chick's beer for Belgian beer range.

Tried this at: Brussels beer cafe, Jln P Ramlee

Tripel Karmeliet (8.4 ABV)

I only had a sip on this - seeing my friend enjoying it very much (just like other Pale ale such as La Trappe tripel etc) I think I should concentrate on Belgian Pale Ale more, after trying some Belgian dark ale.

Tried this at: Brussels beer cafe, Jln P Ramlee

Chimay Blue (9% ABV)

Alleged to be the best beer among the beer enthusiasts, unfortunately, for a beginner like me, I can't really tell the difference between Chimay blue and La Trappe Quadrupel.

But I must say, it's a very good beer in terms of the taste - you'll get many things (many fruits with hints of alcohol [of course] ) in one package.

That's the reason why I like dark ale.

But not stout, yet.

Tried this at: Brussels beer cafe, Jln P Ramlee

Stärker Aromatic beer

I believe that this is a beer, brewed locally by a German.

Anyway, this beer is tasty - I'd say it's a fruit juice with alcohol! :D

Tried this at: Overtime Restaurant, Life Center, Jln Sultan Ismail

Reddot Green beer

OK, a refreshing beer. With spirulina as its ingredient - that explains why it's in green colour.

Tried this at: Craft Brews, Mutiara Damansara

Gouden Carolus tripel (9% ABV)

This is the first beer that opened the door, which told me "Hey, beer is not just about 5-6.5% ABV"

Cool thing about Belgian beer - even at higher than average ABV, you won't quite feel the effect of alcohol (especially during drinking)

And of course, in my opinion, Tripel, Quadrupel, or other Belgian Strong/Pale Ale (or put it this way, Belgian beer) is in their own league - you should not compare it with German beer - as they taste differently.

I'd drink Belgian beer to chillout while German beer goes with (German) food.
I'd drink Belgian beer at small sips while I've no problem with big gulps on German beer (I'll get drunk if I do the same for Belgian beer)

This beer also gave me an idea that 'beer could taste like wine, too'

Tried this at: Bottles & Bottles, The Gardens

La Divine (9.5% ABV)

I had small sips of this beer (after I drank my Carolus) so I can't really tell how it really taste like - basically it's just another Belgian strong ale, I think :P

Tried this at: Bottles & Bottles, The Gardens

Leffe Brune (6.5% ABV)

Leffe Blond was the beer that told me "Hey, Hoegaarden (another Belgian beer) isn't that great, after all"

So after reading the review from Beer Advocate, I decided to give it a try.

The taste - rich. It only made me believe more in 'Belgian beer is in different league from the German's'

I'd regard Leffe Blond as a refreshing (alcoholic) drink, while the Brune one, being a much tastier drink

Tried this at: Home

La Trappe Quadrupel (10% ABV) & La Trappe Blond (6.5% ABV)

La Trappe opened another door for me, told me that "Hey, even the monk in monastery brew beers"

Yes, after doing the research, La Trappe is one of the 7 authentic Trappist beer brand in the world, brewed in the abbey.

I tried La Trappe Quadrupel while I had a sip on my friend's Blond.

The taste? Quadrupel's taste is richer than Leffe Brune + Carolus tripel.

With this one, I've got the alcohol kicked in - I felt sleepy after the drink.

La Trappe Blond, on the other hand, is slightly more refreshing than Quadrupel.

Similar like Carolus tripel, I felt Quadrupel taste like wine.

Tried this at: The Library, The Curve

Hoegaarden Forbidden Fruit (8.5% ABV)

Even though I felt sleepy after drinking La Trappe Quadrupel, me and my friend still had some time to spend/wait till the movie started.

So I decided to try another beer.

This beer, IMHO, has richer taste than Leffe Blond or Hoegaarden Blond - but I'd prefer Leffe Brune and of course Leffe Radieuse (tried some time after this 'Forbidden Fruit' session)

Having said that, I'll of course stick with Leffe or La Trappe.

Tried this at: The Library, The Curve

Warsteiner pilsner (5% ABV)

It's a smooth beer but I felt it's rather diluted.

Not my favorite beer.

Tried this at: Home

Leffe Radieuse (8.4% ABV)

As claimed on its label, this is an 'authentic Abbey beer', even though it's not a Trappist beer.

This beer is not as popular as Leffe Blond or Leffe Brune, but in reality, I seriously felt that it's the best among these three Leffe family.

The taste is richer than Leffe Brune (but of course, nowhere near La Trappe and probably less richer than Carolus tripel)

Yep, this beer will give me some sleepy feel.

I like the beer hence I drank it again few days later, and tried it with proper glass two days ago

Tried this at: Home & Fitou, Desa Park City

Leffe Brune (6.5% ABV, on draft) & Connor's stout

After the good experience with Leffe beer, I've decided to try it at a new cafe.

Funny thing was that, the waitress corrected me with the wrong pronunciation of 'Leffe' (supposed to pronounce like 'Leffer' without the 'r')

Put that aside, luckily she served me the right beer :P

On the other hand, I had a sip of my friend's Connor's stout - no way, it's still a long way for me to like stout.

FYI, Connor's stout is a locally brewed stout, by Carlsberg (no wonder I can't find much info on internet)

Tried this at: Tom, Dick & Harry, TTDI

Bad rebranding, period.

I felt Pepsi had done a terribly wrong move.

Are they trying to position themselves as superhero? (ya, you can put that logo on your t-shirt and start acting as Pepsiman)

(Oh, I'm a fan of Coke, btw)

It reminds me of this:

A rebranding that made itself looks like another superhero or detergent brand.

HP Ultra Concentrate Detergent, anyone?

Verdict: Enjoy the Icelandic sunshine with this album.

So, another Icelandic band that produce good music (the earlier one that I listened was Sigur Ros).

This album is soothing. Very comfortable to listen to - to the extend that will make you feel sleepy.

It's some dreamy soft rock with rather upbeat melodies (ah, sounds complicated as it seems)

But the music is simple and easy to listen to.

When I listen to this song, I often have the image of me myself driving the car, while the warm sunshine shines on me during winter (i.e. Iceland)

Watch one of the MV below - it's both psychedelic + soothing.

I'm pretty pleased with this hunt.
