Thursday

Hoegaarden

Special appearance by Francesco the Bear

If you get to taste Hoegaarden and Heineken, you can immediately tell the difference - the latter one doesn't taste that smooth (needless to say other beers at the same range like Tiger, Anchor etc)

But, given the recent beers that I drank, I'd say Hoegaarden (sounds like Whore Garden, somehow, always gave me that impression) is less gassy than Johann Auer, same smoothness as König Ludwig, but Leffe is tastier than Hoegaarden!

Beer

It only came to my notice that we bear share almost the same name as an alcoholic drink that some human like, which is called 'beer'

Beer is not bear.
Bear is not beer.

Beer will make human fat
Bear is fat by nature.

So, please recognise the word clearly, so that you'll get the right stuff home.

Wednesday

Randoms

Things happened in the past half week - thanks to my beloved C901.

One of the nights' dinner

Sunset when I was reaching home

Old building

Cloud that looks like cyclone

'Avatar plant', my dad said that.

First bite by the leech for this year. More to come, this coming Mulu trip

Tutti Fruitti yogurt. Delicious but f***ing expensive

FRIM again, never cease to love those naturally patterned trees.

Johann Auer

It's gassy but the taste is still ok.

It's a German beer and I would rate it at the same rank as König Ludwig.

You had better be good.

I'll rely on you for the coming Mulu Pinnacle climb, as well as the upcoming-but-subject-to-change Gunung Tahan climb.

Tuesday

Gunung Tahan

Dad: Do you want to go?
Me: Sure, why not?
Dad: Well, I've always wanted to go, I wanted to go in year 1986, but there was something that made me gave up the plan. Now that my friends are asking me if I wanna go...
Me: It's 24 years already. You should go. You are not young already
Dad: Yah, 53 this year. If I times 2, it'll be 106 - I can't do it already but you still can (it will be 26 x 2 = 52)
Me: Then we should really go, those things can't wait :-)

Happy (Belated) Birthday, Emoody Sr

Chapter 11: Horoscope

For the past 2.5 years, horoscope studies has been one of the activities during my leisure time.

I like it very much cos it helps me a bit on human behavior studies as well as my 'imitation hobby'.

Here I'd like to share on what I had learned so far - cos it's been fun to get to understand it.

To give a short brief on horoscope:

1) There are 12 signs

It starts with Aries and it ends with Pisces

2) There are 4 elements that gives general characteristic of the signs
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth:Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air:Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water:Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

3) There are 3 types of qualities
Cardinal: Aries, Cancer,Libra, Capricorn
Fix: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
Mutable: Gemini, Virgo,Sagittarius, Pisces

虎標萬金油

Finally, got a bottle of it.

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds

Verdict: Solid story with solid acting - but ending was rather.. dramatically fast

I didn't feel bored with this 2.5hours movie (an instant comparison, with Avatar, I felt bored at the beginning)

I thought the movie talks about cause & action, with some coincidence in between - happened in alternate timeline of Nazi era.

The movie is typical Quentin Tarantino (gory) style, just like those you've seen in Kill Bill 1 & 2 - so take it or leave it.

The only drawback of the movie is that, I thought coincidence was too much and that the situation was too perfect for the last grand assassination - with so many top rank Nazi leaders in the cinema - there seemed to have not much of soldiers guarding around?

But still, the solid and smooth story flow, as well as solid acting especially by Christoph Waltz as SS Colonel Hans Landa, neutralised the gory & perfect-coincidence I mentioned.

Rating: 8.5/10

Movie Review: Legion

Verdict: A typical B-movie. Period.

The action scene you saw from the trailer, took probably the 50% of the real action scene happened in the movie.

That wasn't quite a joke.

This movie, about the 'Judgment Day" - all I remembered was talking, talking, some action scene, then talking and talking.

Some talkings were rather philosophical - but too much will make it a draggy film.

Actions were predictable.

However, I like the phrase Michael talked to Gabriel -

"You gave Him what He asked for, I gave Him what He needs"

Rating: 3.5/10

Malaysia Bo Leh

Come to think bout it, is that why Malaysia Boleh can never 'Boleh' ?

Bo leh = 'nothing' in Hokkien

Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes

Verdict: Think "Iron Man, Made in England, during Victorian Age"

I really think the above statement summarise the whole movie.

The movie setting is back in the London during the Victorian Age.

With the rather radical representation of Sherlock Holmes by Robert Downey Jr (starred in Iron Man, which is another fun movie to watch), this movie is fun to watch.

Not only the movie has lotsa witty moment (e.g. his mind-simulation of his fighting tactic) - in fact, there were also excessive of information to be absorbed, but it didn't discount any fun factor.

This movie is best watched by the person who isn't a hardcore fan of the original Sherlock Holmes, and who like those silly British type of comedy (take Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz - they share similar formula)

The acting, story, the flow, the graphic are solid - not something I would expect from Guy Ritchie, definitely.

The only drawback is that the movie has so much of coincidence (how they are able to get the difficult evidence, how they narrowly escape etc)

But still, I'm giving it a solid rating.

Rating: 9.5/10

Movie Review: Bodyguard & Assassins

Verdict: A good Chinese movie with great effort put in production.

Just look at the casts in the movie posters - you'll know it's a serious production.

Yes the movie is about serious issue, too.

It's about the revolution happened in China, but the incident happened in Hong Kong when the assassins from Qing dynasty tried to kill Sun Yat-Sen who traveled to Hong Kong at that time.

The flow of the story is good, not much of bull shit.

The settings are true to the early 1900-era.

Hence, a serious movie that's seriously produced.

My only complaint is the length of the movie, which can be cut short by, for instance, reduce the number of individual fights.

And for instance again, maybe they wanna make Donnie Yen as the selling point (which, certainly is), so Donnie Yen got quite a lot of individual fights.

Just a side note, me and my friend, somehow, laughed out when we saw the tall monk was stabbed by group of people for the second time.

Apart from that, a good Chinese movie.

Rating: 7.5/10

DSK Guide #9.6: FireFox 3.6

Although Firefox is the third fastest browser now (in terms of page rendering speed) - but who cares, it is still my favorite browsers in terms of ability to customize, and lots of interesting third party plugins that improve the browsing experience.

Here you go, Firefox 3.6, a faster (in terms of page rendering speed + memory usage) and better browser than its predecessor Firefox 3.5.

Chemical Brothers

Finally they announced on their MySpace website that their new album will arrive in few months time, which is 'new and exciting'.

While their last two albums failed to give the the 'ummphh' feeling, I'll still look forward to it ;)

Bearmeron Trip

I was busy preparing for Mulu trip, but sigh, I should have joined this.

Look, the two Emoodys went to Cameron Highlands.

Enjoying the sunshine..

...and the cool breeze.

Emoody wanted to drink beer but was stopped by Trevor

Then he had a photo with those English style buildings

Knowing that they enjoyed the trip, I became emo.

When Trevor and Colleen tried to pacify me, I got my arms folded (emo+ )

But well, I'm looking forward to Mulu trip now, which will happen in a week time :-3

Emoody

It's been almost a month since Emoody's recovery of schizophrenia.

I'm glad to tell that, it's all on track :-3

For the first week he still claimed he talked to a imaginary friend in one of the nights.

But for the rest of the weeks, he admitted that back then, he had very hard time (cos he thought he have friends, but those friends didn't treat him as friend)

So now, he's doing good.

Me, Emoody Sr and Sebastian are quite happy for him.

Thursday

Avatar, Again

So two days ago I brought the whole family to watch this movie.

Father: The graphic was nice
Mum: Apart from the nice graphic.. not my cup of tea
Sister: Nice graphic.

So, the summary is, nice graphic. Like what I said earlier, the story was OK.

And I've gotta tell ya, my feel of second watch was like... I felt the movie could have been 1 hour shorter.

I know the director would like to explain things clearly - but some part, might have explained too much in detail.

I don't know but I felt bored with the first hour, and had the thought "luckily the war scene later isn't bad"

Heart Soul Inter-Connected

9/1/10 - Family bond is strong?

Literally, it means 心靈相通 in Mandarin.

Earlier on, my mum went to Carrefour - she bought this ice cream! (to her, it's an expensive ice cream)

At almost the same time, I went to Jusco, I saw this ice cream, found the packaging changed (it doesn't use the smelly plastic packaging anymore)

So I bought it.

At home, when I was about to store it into the fridge - I was shocked! My mum found out this and told me on the spot "Somehow I've got a feeling that you'll buy it.. how to finish?"

I told her "well, let's not be calculative on the good quality ice cream - we'll be able to finish it"

But after that, the whole family caught with coughing.

The total ice cream left = 1.5 tube = 1.5L

Wednesday

Hing Kee Bakuteh

Finally, had a taste of this bakuteh, near my house, opened by my friend.

生骨 - RM15 per pax(please pre-order), normal骨- RM10 per pax

If you wonder what's the size of 生骨 - it could be as big as a chicken drumstick.

黃酒雞 - I never like 黃酒雞 so I'll have no comment on this

Rice - not bad

Lioness

Colleen the Lioness

I know she might kill me for putting this.

But I already got her permission after I took the photo.

So, you can't kill me, Colleen.

'Excuses' Shopping

Today after lunch I shopped - almost RM100 spent in 20min shopping at Tesco.

But I have reasons behind everything I bought:

Shin Ramyun - it's been a while since I last bought this, I thought RM11.88 is a rare low price nowadays (Jusco is selling at... RM15?)
Tesco Mineral Water, 5.5L - I need to drink more water, Colleen suggested me to buy actually (hahaha, using ppl's name pulak)
Shoyu Black Pepper chips - Colleen like it, so I bought it
Wise Gila Pedas chips - My stomach wants it, my teeth wanna chew it
Myojo Mee Goreng - me and colleen like it, it's time to add some stock
Peel Fresh Mangosteen 1L - my body need detox. Mangosteen juice is the lazy but nutritious solution
Lee Kam Kee XO Sauce - let's make the food TASTIER!
Wrigleys Chewing Gum - running out of gums to chew
Tsingtao Beer - I heard from my uncle that it's very good. Very good cos they used the fountain water to brew this Chinese beer. So, just give it a try (not in office, of course)
Garnier Facial Wash - running out of stock and would like to give it a try on this brand.

The Scientist

Tuesday

The Beatles

Finally, collection completed

I felt happy - collection completed - both mono and stereo edition of the entire Beatles record.

For Beatles in Mono - you get the physical touch of the replica of vinyl cover + inlet design back in those days.

For Beatles Stereo USB, you get all the albums in MP3, plus high quality electronic version of the cover + inlet, as well as mini documentaries of each and every album.

Last but not least, it also comes with 24-bit lossless format of all the albums (FLAC)

Though the wallet damage is quite severe, but as a Beatles fan, I feel worth it and I'd recommend Beatles fan to get them, too.

Monday

Pathetic

The moment you see
those people fight over
the use of a word "Allah"
You may start to wonder
"Who are they to speak
on behalf of God?"

It's all plain assumption,
after all.

Cameron Highlands(2)

So me and my friend went to Cameron Highlands yesterday, randomly.

The view behind the old tea factory of Boh Tea Centre

On the way down from the Boh Tea centre

On the way driving out...

from the Boh Tea centre

My friend said "KL jam.. Cameron also jam... Malaysia Boleh."

Equitorial Hotel, car park area

Alcohol ghost (酒鬼)

Which was one of the purpose we went to Cameron Highlands, btw.

Had fries as snack @ Vintage Restaurant.. not bad

Visited Time Tunnel.. as an actor-wannabe (很愛演)

Had Strawberry strudels @ Strawberry Moment... looked nice but tasted so so.. maybe I was too full.

On the way back...

The trip was fun but tiring.. very tiring.
